Berns

Berns was built in 1863. I love the grand facade.

OK, the building itself  is gorgeous. As is the interior. The atmosphere is fun. The food is not bad. Not spectacular, but there are some tasty options on the menu. But the service Friday night for dinner at Berns Asian was just about non-existent. It was hard to even get our orders placed, let alone get our meals. It was a good thing I was there with good friends and we had a lot to get caught up on. Even so, we were hungry and starting to get a bit antsy by the time the food arrived. And while we had ordered a bottle of wine, our glasses set empty for a long time before we could persuade someone to bring us refills.

All that said, our starters – chicken and salmon dumplings and edamame – were good. And the cod I had as my main was OK. But while I like going and hanging out at Berns, it seems like I am always left a little disappointed. And that’s too bad. Because this place has such great potential, from the place itself to the menu.

The salon inside Berns is elegant and the chandeliers are fabulous.
