Apartment hunting in Stockholm

in Stockholm

Pampas Marina

On Saturday, we went to a house-warming party for Thomas and Anna who just got a fantastic place on the water, literally. Their house floats at Pampas Marina.

Our search for a new home in Stockholm is ongoing. It’s been frustrating because we love where we’re at and we also have a bra utsikt or good view.

Like with most people, location matters to us. We want to stay in the city center so that we don’t need a car, but we also like a good neighborhood ambience. On that note, we’ve found an area where we would love to live in Södermalm and have been chasing anything we can find there. Tomorrow we will look at another place in an old building there, but given the photos online, there are definitely some strange quirks to the place.

On the other hand, there is a great new apartment just outside the city center with more rooms than what we need, but in a neighborhood that is not quite where we want to be. We’re going to take a look anyway to see if we can visualize ourselves there.

People were even driving their boats to the party. How cool is that?

And on a  funny note, we have been offered the chance to get a second-hand lease on a brand-new apartment in Hammarby. The space is large according to the floor plans, but we have been told that we must decide whether we want to live there sight unseen as the building is still a construction site. There are no mock-ups or anything to look at. I don’t even buy a pair of shoes without trying them on, so there is simply no way I want to say I will live in this place without seeing it!

Oooh, good luck. Apartment-hunting in Stockholm is legendary. And not in a good way!

Thanks Antropologa. You are right about it being legendary and not in a good way! There are even ads on blocket from companies that are looking for rental apartments. It doesn’t help that we love our current place but must move as the building has been sold.

You know we have looked around for more than a year, or maybe even almost 2 years. Good luck! You’ll immediately know when you find the right one.

Thanks Ani. I know we will find something, but it will take a while. In the meantime, it looks like we will be in the temporary place in Hammarby Sjöstad. It’s brand new at least, not even finished yet.
