A sunny day in Canberra

No one was sitting outside yesterday at the National Museum of Australia Canberra.

It is another gorgeous sunny day, the kind that in Stockholm would have everybody outside and soaking up the sun in cafes and parks. When this kind of day happens, Stockholmers take long lunches or maybe even the afternoon off so that they can absorb as much sunlight as possible. They have to make up for the long winter without sun.

In Canberra, people wear broad brim hats, carry umbrellas and sit and park in the shade.  Here in Australia where there is a lot more sun, that sun has done a lot of damage. So Australians tend to be more careful about the sun. My nephew and nieces have to wear a hat as part of their school uniform. Swimsuits have sun protection built into them. Outdoor cafes have sunshades.

As for me and my winter white skin, I only have about 10 days left of sunny Australia, so I think I will have to soak up some sun today. I have not done this yet. But it will be a while before I am in temperatures like these again and I need to do some stockpiling before I return to the Arctic north.
