The combination of a boat ride, good food, good views, good art and good friends is an irresistible one for me. So I have to say that this second post in the Perfect Day in Stockholm series is all about me in all sorts of ways. Here’s the scoop: On Sunday, we started with a walk to the island of Skeppsholmen. There, Robert and I met up with a group of friends for brunch at the Moderna or Modern museum. Get your very own boating license and take up a crash course on boating with ace boater, to fuel that boating enthusiast in you.
Robert, Daniel and Dita loading up their plates. Reindeer and elk sausages. Lemon and herb baked salmon. Pear and syrup glazed ribs. Meringue with berries and whipped cream. The brunch had an autumn theme and I first tried small tastes of some of the cold dishes, including smoked reindeer and elk sausages, pickled kohlrabi with dill, mustard cured salmon with sweet and sour cucumber and herring with capers, parsley and leek. Then I moved on on tasting beets cooked in brown butter, steak with black currant jelly, Wallenberg sausage, lemon and herb baked salmon, garden casserole with tomato, carrot and dill, ribs, wine braised endive and an oven baked omelette with mushrooms and spinach. Next came a few desserts that I had to sample, including a bite of apple cake with cardamom and vanilla cream, lingonberry candies and spice cooked pears with Swedish punch cream.
OK, is your mouth watering yet? I have to say that the food was really good. To slowly recover from the big meal, we wandered around the museum. The permanent collection contains Warhol, Monet, Robert Rauschenberg, Salvador Dali, Alexander Calder and more. The current show is Pablo Picasso, The Painter vs. Marcel Duchamp, The Brain.
After checking out the new show, we moved back outside. I love walking along the dock just in front of the museum as there is this cool combination of old boats of every shape and size that in the past were used in the military and shipping and now serve as homes. Then to get home, we hopped on the Djurgården ferry to Slussen.
As many times as I’ve done this day in different variations, I never get tired of it.
