Love, hatred, jealousy, mischief and dance. It’s all in Coppelia. Last night I went to see the Royal Swedish Ballet perform this classic comedy. I have to say that I was excited as this was my first visit to the Kungliga Operan or the Royal Opera House. The gorgeous building was opened in 1782 and is worth checking out – tours are offered on weekends – and Coppelia is such a fun, accessible ballet, filled with lots of humor and of course, spectacular dance. It was a special night for the Royal Swedish Ballet company, which dates from 1773 and is the fourth oldest ballet in the world, as the show’s principal dancer Christian Rambo, who played Coppelius, was retiring. Thus there was a mini presentation showcasing his career. It was such a lovely evening to share with girlfriends.
