The heart of Södermalm

For the almost seven years that we’ve lived in Stockholm, we’ve lived on Södermalm. (With the exception of three months on Kungsholmen.) Next week, we’ll be moving to Vasastan. While it will be wonderful to live in a new part of town, I can’t help but feel a bit sad about leaving this island.

Södermalm is a quirky combination of grand and gritty mixed with historic and worn. As it’s an island, you can easily and quickly find spectacular water views.  It’s the left bank, the Soho of Stockholm. It’s where the artists and writers live – and I like to count myself part of that group. Every time I go out in my neighborhood – and it really does feel neighborhoody – I notice some new little intriguing detail or grand facade. By the way, all the photos here are within a three-minute walk from my apartment.

You both perfectly fit to Södermalm!
It is a pity that you have to move!
But maybe Vasastan will be the future Södermalm. 😉

Thanks Britta! I’m sure we will enjoy it there too! Friends have the aparmten one floor below us and it is very close to Annelie’s place here, too.

That is sad – I have enjoyed the lovely photos you have taken of that area. I’ve had to move around often because of my husband’s work, and there are pros and cons wherever you go, but it seems to take me longer and longer to adjust every time. So it’s great that you will live near friends.

Gorgeous post. You’re going to love living in Vasastan – super close to so much. And tons of cute bars and restaurants there too.
