Stockholm is not in Switzerland

In glancing at Xenophobe’s guide to the Swedes, I came across the following hilarious quote: “The Norwegians find the Swedes insufferably puffed up, while the Danes consider them to be party poopers. The British see them as sexy but cold, and the Americans think they are Swiss. Immigrants dream of a Swedish welfare state without any Swedes.”

I have to admit that I laughed when I read this. I can’t tell you how many American friends thought I was going to be living in Zurich when I told them I was moving to Sweden. And my South African friend Annelie (who lives in Stockholm) had an aunt call her to say that she was coming to Zurich on holiday and wanted to come by and visit while she was in town. I love that story.
