turkish spa at Sturebadet

The cold bath at Sturebadet. Even though it was only 12c, the icy water was a welcome relief after the steam room and sauna.

I channeled Greta Garbo’s ghost last night. Or well, maybe not. But I did feel like I had one luxurious evening at what was one of Garbo’s favorite places, Sturebadet. This beautiful old spa was founded in 1885 and Garbo went there during the 1920s.

With a group of friends – both old and brand new – I led the good life for two hours in the Turkish bath. I alternated between stints in the steam room, the sauna and the cold bath. And in between the bathing, I got to eat fresh fruit and drink champagne.

Sampling the fruit and champagne at Sturebadet.

It was a pretty decadent way to spend a Thursday night. I could get used to the good life.
