Postcard from Cincinnati: visiting old favorites at the art museum

In the eight years I’ve been living away from Cincinnati, I’ve come to better appreciate the city where I’m from. I love discovering all the new places–the restaurants, bakeries, bars and museums–and also revisiting the old favorites. Working on art magazines as I did, I spent a lot of time at the Cincinnati Art Museum. While I always loved going there, I have not been in a long time.

So last Wednesday, I went to the museum again. Seeing the Bouguereau, Breton and Calder paintings again made me feel like I was visiting old friends. But this time, I was particularly blown away by Dale Chihuly’s Rio Delle Torreselle. This giant chandelier hangs in the entry foyer to the museum and it so amazing to look at. Plus, the glass was blown in Finland. Being there was such a great way to spend the afternoon with my parents.

Speaking of which, while we sold our home in Cincinnati years ago, I can still go “home” in a way as I stay at my parent’s house. As they live on a small lake, I love looking out at the water. The photo here was taken as the sun came up one morning.
