Things were a bit quiet around town tonight. We were out for drinks with friends at a popular spot and even though it is Thursday, the place was quiet. But tomorrow will be a different story. Everyone will be out, everyone will be drinking, everyone will be having a good time. It will be crazy on the subway, in the restaurants and in the pubs. And it’s all because tomorrow is payday for the entire country. Of course, the idea of everyone getting paid on the same day is a foreign idea to me. In the US, I was paid every two weeks while I had friends who were paid once a week or once a month. It varies.
When we first moved here, Robert and I weren’t aware that everyone was paid on the same day. So we would be out on a Friday and notice that things were just extra wild. We mentioned the fact to a Swedish friend who explained the payday bonanza and suddenly it all made sense. It’s kind of nice that everyone has some money to celebrate all at once – it makes that weekend following a payday quite a festive one. So I guess I’ll see you at the pub tomorrow, right?
