Breaking out of a holding pattern

in Living abroad,writing a book

Cincinnati

For the last year, I’ve been in a holding pattern with my book, Going Viking. I’ve done bits and pieces of writing here and there, but nothing nearly as substantial as I would have liked. I’ve been distracted. And I’ve spent so much time writing for my day job that I’ve not really been inspired to do my own writing at night.

Excuses, excuses. I’ve got lots. (Don’t we all?)

But the thing is, I need to make some decisions about what way to take the book. I’ve got several possibilities for how it could go. And for some reason, I can’t pick just one and run with it. I’ve been waiting for inspiration to strike me with a big old lightning bolt and show me exactly the right direction. As you can probably guess, nothing has happened.

It’s time for me to take the advice I’ve given to countless other writers and just do it. Wish me luck.

Good advice to yourself! Set up a time/date/calendar for writing and just do it.

Dear Sandra,
Have one copy (or fifty to sell to your friends:) of it printed by some self printing kind of place with the cover jacket and all just as you imagine it in a bookstore window. See it as a “real” book, and visualize it in every bookstore Everywhere! Then buy a fabulous place with a perfect writing room for your next one with the royalties.
I am visualizing it for you too!

Yeah go self printing, call it limited edition and sign it with a quote, I buy one or a couple and send out to friends.
